CT scan went well!

We doubt we will have any information from James's CT scan until next week, but the process itself could not have gone better! Those words were uttered by a sweet nurse named Julie that guided us throughout the morning.

After checking the little guy's vitals, the next step was for an IV to be inserted because they wanted to perform the scan with contrast / dye. This can be challenging for babes because their veins are sometimes hard to locate. While a few nurses were searching for a good vein with Jim standing nearby, the nurse practitioner pulled me aside to discuss the process. She said they would try once but it would likely not work out. At that point, they like to medicate a little bit to take away the anxiety in order to be poked until a vein is able to be reached well - that the needle would need to be inserted at least a half inch inside the vein. Well, Julie was a pro and got the job done on the first try. And our little man didn't even cry! At one point, the nurse practitioner went to check his throat with a tongue depressor (you know, popsicle stick) and cautioned us that he would hate it, but when she removed it, James looked up at her and smiled!

Next up was to sedate him a bit so he would sleep during the scan. The sedative was administered orally but James did not like the taste and spit out most of it. We were hoping he swallowed enough to fall asleep without being administered a second dose. And he did! Jim rocked James to sleep (without the fuss that's potentially worse than babies have ever made, as we were warned), and we made haste for the CT scan room. As James was settled in, he wiggled a bit and so I was prayed he would sleep well enough for them to take a good scan. As soon as they finished the scan and Jim picked him up, James woke up! We were so thankful such a small amount of sedative worked exactly long enough!

After that, James ate and played with his E.T. toe (monitor) for a few minutes and we were essentially done!

Thank you for thinking of and praying for us! We are so grateful for such a good day! We pray the scan will reveal something promising, the site does not continue to grow before the surgery, and there will be no long-term damage from this.
